Accomplishments

Since 1995 we have owned and operated The Meadows, a 36 unit housing complex for low income families and families receiving Section 8 housing subsidies. RHDC uses the income generated from The Meadows and grants from other agencies like USDA Rural Development and Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA)to do home construction and rehabilitation in Rockwall County.

We have participated in the construction of 6 new homes, 8 major home rehabilitations, in excess of 100 moderate rehabilitations and 200 minor rehabilitations.

We also furnish air conditioners and heaters depending on the time of year to low income families.

We are currently finishing up a $60,000.00 grant partnership for moderate rehabilitation with USDA and have just received $114,000.00 from TDHCA to demolish and rebuild two low income owner occupied homes in the city of Rockwall. The TDHCA grant will be subsidized by RHDC and the city of Rockwall to complete the construction.

We also offer up to $5,000.00 down payment assistance to first time low income residents of Rockwall County for a home purchase.

We have a 12 member Board of Directors that includes at large directors, representatives from other municipalities, Rockwall County, the Rockwall Independent School District and low income neighborhood organizations in Rockwall County.

Our whole focus is to provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing for low-income, elderly, and disabled residents of Rockwall County.

Rockwall schools consistently outperform other schools and Rochell Elementary school is within walking distance of The Meadows.
